Ever Wonder Why Jesus Shut Demons Up From Proclaiming Him?

Sometimes we wonder why Jesus did certain things in the Bible and this post is about one of such things:

Just out of Curiosity, have you ever wondered why Jesus stopped demons from telling Who He was/is?

Reading the bible you find two passages (Mark 1 & Lk 4) that tell the same story of how Jesus stopped the demon-possessed man from speaking (actually it was the demons he shut up).

I found myself pondering the same thing one morning, and as I was about to start thinking what the reasons might be; the Holy Spirit gave me an insight, and I knew it was truly the Spirit of Truth that revealed it to me.

Before we answer this question lets read the passages below to get a feel of it:

Passage 1a (Mark 1:24-25)

Mark 1: 24 “What do you want with us,Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!”26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.

Passage 1b (Mark 1:32-34)

Mark 1: 32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

Passage 2 (Lk 4: 33-35)

Luke 4: 33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”35 Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him! Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.

Question:

Why Did Jesus Shut Demons up From Proclaiming Him?

Answer:

  1. Jesus did not want His glory to be broadcast by demons but by us, His children, He is glorified in Heaven by the angels and on Earth, He is to be glorified by humans, not demons.
  2. Jesus knows demons are liars like their father Satan, hence His testimony would have been tainted had demons proclaimed it.
  3.  Jesus knew that people wouldn’t be drawn to him because of demonic testimony since the Holy Spirit is the one that draws men unto God, not demons.
  4. Jesus did not want the attention such praise would bring especially when the Pharisees and the Sadducee were suspicious of him being posses by some demon.
  5. Jesus also wanted to tell the World He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords by showing He had ultimate authority over demons and devils
  6. Jesus also did not want His ministry to be publicized before it began in earnest.
  7. Jesus is the meek and humble servant and savior of mankind, therefore, Satan has no part to play in the redemption message.
